I too was in a situation where I nearly had a crazy rendezvous of experiencing death, not literally although in terms of how I am handling the difficulties and dealing with adulthood. How did I undertake these seemingly annoying times you ask? Well, a few realisations hit sit me like a surge of sand dunes when I inhaled my last will….and the biggest one made took me beyond the materialistic, it was “You are still you!!” Preach much? I understand…. allow me to dissect it in ease. Imagine you’re a car. Be it any car you want…. a Maruti, an Alto, AUDI?! Or even a grand SUV. What is one thing all these cars need? Yup, that’s right…. It’s FUEL! Without fuel or battery or charge none of the cars can be driven at all. You are exactly the same, a motor who needs fuel consistently to keep going. How do you do that? Follow below:

1. YOUR STATE OF MIND DEFINES YOUR WORLD:

A car has its own brains too if you observe, it’s called POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) aka Engine Control. This machine regulates various important functions and has direct impact on how well the car runs. Human brain is bang on similar. If the state of our brain is fit our world and the geography will be fitter. Example: we all have been through ups and downs of relationships with either our jobs or love life and a little problem in either of them cracks our disposition of making everything around us seem bad. Even our functioning turns mediocre as the thoughts manipulate the way we look at our surroundings. Don’t let it. Have steady control over your PCM, exercise it correctly and give it it’s natural space to express.

2. WHAT’S YOUR STEERING WHEEL?

What’s your steering wheel? For me it’s indulging in art. The soulful artistic pleasures give me increase my capacity to intake more learnings, be it anything from photography to writing, to playing sports of delivering. At the end of the day it all matters if you have given it you best. Seeking different extra curriculars just like the ones our institutions had made us more flexible and also helped in increasing the level of performance. Go out and look and join. They will definitely build your ability to have a more content journey on the road. Exactly like a car when the clutch, the break and the accelerator are running smoothly.

3. GUILTY PLEASURES ARE YOUR PLEASURES:

I’m going to leave it to you guys to think and utilize the point called “Simple pleasures of life”. Extract your power from these mini satisfiers of your life and charge yourself up. Basic pleasures of every individual differ, some like to hit the gym others prefer cooking, or even reading a book or digging into a choco pie and being in the company of like-minded people! So first think about what your SIMPLE PLEASURES is without putting much effort to it, because as we already know our lives are complicated because we make them so. Then remind yourself of when was the last you enjoyed these not so guilty activities or even thought of doing them. Revisit them, and understand that challenging roads are not always the answer. Easy paths can also be taken to reach the destination more joyfully.

4. IT’S JOURNEY THAT MATTERS:

Changing gears is considered one of the most crucial aspects of driving, similarly staying motivated constantly is very much necessary in our long existence. However, this motivation or inspiration does not have to come from outside every day. You are the source and the mouth. Your behavioural, technical and functional gifts empower your judgement as well you to do better. Why need power from outside when you have your own gears to alter courses whenever and however. Infinite personalities compartmentalize their own life and hence perceive others the same way. That’s not how it has to be though as long as you’re okay with the journey you’re on and the way you’re leading it (has to be legal though!).

5. PERFORMANCE

I think if the input is 100%, the output will not be anything less than that, just remember not to deter from the path for small matters trivial enough to be forgotten by evenfall.

So be courageous to decide what output you want from yourself, and it may not be same at all points in time. There are takers for Sedan, SUV, Hatchback or super luxury…it’s you who need to make a decision of your offering!

The 3 C’s – Career Competition Collaboration! https://nehatalks.com/2019/11/04/the-3-cs-career-competition-collaboration/ https://nehatalks.com/2019/11/04/the-3-cs-career-competition-collaboration/#respond Mon, 04 Nov 2019 04:56:40 +0000 http://nehatalks.com/?p=1176 Moving across different stages of human development, from a child to an adolescent to an adult, one thing that remained common was my core belief in the power of group or you may call team! What can be a better example than family members who collaborate to driving best results.

However on the contrary, today and even back then, I would notice adults making academics more of competition to reach the career than gaining knowledge for a sustainable career.

Today, my heart breaks to see the younger ones running in the race, not being socially connected to their surroundings but social media!

What is career? What’s the fuss over making a human academically stronger? The rush, panic and awe is just so overwhelming when it comes to educating oneself….no wonder the rate of mental depression has become hostile.

Hands down education is amongst the primary rights of a person, but don’t you think in this hoard of making someone academically powerful, it’s affecting the natural growth of their original personalities?

They are just becoming vastly literate. There’s a difference. The competition is frightening~ 10th, 12th Entrances, Graduation, jobs etc etc….the expectations!! It’s a vicious cycle with no proven end.

From adolescence to adulthood we talk about “Stress Management”. These stages go deeper and become more prominent. ‘Build a promising future otherwise you’ll be a failure all your life’ are society’s burdening vocabulary.

Instead, as parents, elders, mentors how about we take a deep breath….and think, are you layering the groundwork of your kids’ career so that the community praises you and not make noise like empty vessels? Or are you making your child of being confident with high self-belief.

I understand the necessity of education and working, to be independent in all aspects of life. I mean who doesn’t want their children to be designated in top corporates or at least earn their own bread and butter. But in this bargain aren’t we compromising on making them better human beings who have stronger values?

How about mentoring them from a different angle to make it known that learning and listening in the environment that gives the opportunity to is healthier. You know exposing them to the power of Collaboration over Competence!

So that they can salvage their future on their own terms and fly like an eagle, rather than just being ducks.

Goal setting – A pre-requisite to success? https://nehatalks.com/2018/07/17/goal-setting-a-pre-requisite-to-success/ https://nehatalks.com/2018/07/17/goal-setting-a-pre-requisite-to-success/#respond Tue, 17 Jul 2018 09:22:03 +0000 http://nehatalks.com/?p=1088 While many of us think and believe in order to be successful identification of the goal and the purpose of it is sure to get you the desired results, many will disagree. More so because we all set out on different journeys, take different paths even though the destination might be the same. It really is difficult to justify or decide what suits one the best.

On a personal level, the one universal goal known is ‘weight-loss’.  Almost every day we come across someone who is on a weight-loss regime or on a professional level someone who aims to be a big business tycoon with a healthy bank account and has set a timeline to achieve the specified goal. The quest to seek satisfactory results is unquenchable. The ideal thing to do in such a case is using developmentally appropriate techniques that give you space to review your efforts and determine  what changes need to be made in the ongoing process. Mapping success becomes easy when divided into stages which usually begin with a one- six month test and the time frames are decided as per convenience or the deadlines one has to meet.

On the contrary, there exist people who do not find it necessary to plan things in advance and prefer flowing with the flow, welcoming all good and bad things that come along. Not only is this attitude believed to be enriching but also provides an opportunity to channelize energy and consideration into different aspects . Exploration, experimentation, manipulation and discovery coupled with an urge to investigate the world around, offer freedom of action and aid growth. This makes living and learning more meaningful while keeping abreast of a goal that is not time-bound.

Setting goals is like wearing blinkers that restrict our view of what is happening alongside, sometimes depriving us of an opportunity or a dream we had subconsciously thought or dreamt of but looked far-fetched at that point in time. The uncertainty of situations is unavoidable which makes it paramount to be flexible and comfortable with taking a route that was not thought of before. A twist of fate unequivocally is outstandingly bad or good but what makes it worth is the experience you had when you set out to achieve something with a vision and saw yourself in good light.

Goal-setting surely makes us well-rounded and balanced individuals and offers opportunities for mastery of one’s conscious self. Confined to our own timelines, it is a voluntary action that has elements of adventure to it. However, while deciding the goal, a holistic approach is a must.

That said, nothing is cast in stone and the odds are not decided or dictated by someone who doesn’t have a locus of control over things you choose to do. Hence, being impulsive yet respecting your own uniqueness and individuality refines judgement and paves way for further interest and concentration. Pre-set or not, personal or professional, goals chosen to be accomplished require conscious thought and the underlying reasons as to what intrigues you is essential for the survival of you and your dream.

Sales – A skill or an instinct https://nehatalks.com/2018/07/17/sales-a-skill-or-an-instinct/ https://nehatalks.com/2018/07/17/sales-a-skill-or-an-instinct/#respond Tue, 17 Jul 2018 08:57:54 +0000 http://nehatalks.com/?p=1080 More often than not, many of us come across young executives on the streets or venues like malls selling/promoting a product of the organization they represent which is known to us as Direct Sales. Sometimes we meet them in the form of hawkers knocking door-to-door. But the most invading of all are the telemarketers trying to convince you why you should opt for their service provider. Mostly all of them, at some point or the other, make us subliminally wonder if they really are able to make conversions and achieve their assigned targets within specified time limits. And perhaps a few of us even try to empathize with the young salesmen we run into.

A question worth seeking an answer for is – Is sales a skill or an instinct?

After working in the fundraising industry for nearly 3 years now (where the product is a dream and an idea of something that will happen in future), I staunchly believe sales is a “natural” instinct. Failures are often faced by people who try to master it as a skill relentlessly but are reluctant to shed off inhibitions and embrace candour. Sales is about being able to shamelessly sell your product without having the prospect feel intruded. In other words, bowling him.

Positive strokes and reinforcement of what you already possess result into concrete experiences, clearing the air on whether the career path suits you or not. What happens in a training room forms only the basis of a trainee’s knowledge but it is his instincts that play a vital role in guiding him through the process of convincing a prospect to sign up for whatever the former has to offer. Whether the conversation will die an unfateful death and whether you still stand a chance to exploit it further depends on how well you have been able to influence the person in front you to keep his ears glued. Sales conversions depend partially on how the information is being perceived by the prospect but depend  largely on how you want it to be perceived.

A salesperson might come across as crass like a high-school student with a hyper-aggressive attitude but if he has got the solution to one’s needs, the annoyance is forbidden. Sales personnel with smart mouths often have it in them to manipulate words that roll out of their tongues. To be able to choose the words tactfully and improvise on field to handle objections is something no classroom teaches. A sales script is a standard script provided to executives coming from different walks of life, holding different interests, speaking different languages and showcasing different personas altogether.

Therefore, instincts as opposed to skills acquired deliberately over time with experience, hold an upper hand in determining the success of a salesperson.
